Good Neighbor Energy Fund

The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is a voluntary customer contributory program that helps KUA customers experiencing financial difficulty pay their KUA utility bills in emergency situations.

KUA Asks You to Help
KUA is asking people to reach out and contribute to the Good Neighbor Energy Fund. This program is designed so that customers who can afford to - and want to help others - can make voluntary contributions to the fund. It's a small gift that could really make a difference in the lives of families experiencing temporary problems in this time of economic uncertainty.

Construction of Electric Infrastructure to Serve Kissimmee's Pleasant Hill Road Corridor

Introduction
KUA is in the early stages of planning new electrical infrastructure to serve the south Kissimmee area. The project marks an $18 million investment in infrastructure.

Why Here? Why Now?

  • New infrastructure is needed to
-respond to increased demand for power
    -provide reliable electric service
  • Customer energy demand along Pleasant Hill Road corridor grew 28 percent in 2003-04 alone.
  • Current system will not carry projected load past summer 2007.
Community Involvement
  • Open house held on Oct. 13, 2005 to receive public comment on project.
  • Public information meeting held on Nov. 2, 2005.
  • Regular project updates will be posted at www.kua.com.
  • KUA staff will be available throughout process to answer questions and receive input.

What Types of Infrastructure Are Needed?

  • One - 69/13.2kV substation - 2.55 acres
    - A substation is an electrical facility where power is reduced from a higher voltage to a lower voltage.
  • Two - 69kV overhead power line circuits (approx. 5.5 miles total)
    - A power line transports electricity between substations and ultimately into homes and businesses to serve customers.

The Development Process

  • KUA is working with representatives from Osceola County, FL Department of Environmental Protection, Army Corp. of Engineers and CSX.
  • Proposed Project Timeline - December 2005: Design, permitting and acquisition of right-of-way begins
    - Construction Started April 2007
    - February 2008 – Substation In Service
