65,434 Participate in KUA Customer Contest

KISSIMMEE, Fla., June 12, 9:00 am – 65,434 individuals visited the website of Kissimmee Utility Authority from May 1 – June 7 as part of a “Don’t Pay in May” contest to encourage customer use of the utility’s new, interactive website, www.kua.com .
Ten lucky KUA customers were randomly selected to have their utility bill paid… just for visiting the website. Only two of these customers — Aric Stoots and Henry Campbell — actually visited the site to claim their prize. Eight prizes were left unclaimed.
An animated banner on the website’s homepage directed visitors to the contest page where customers could simply type in their KUA account number to determine if they were a contest winner. Free computers were also set up in the lobby of KUA’s Carroll Street facility throughout the contest so customers without an internet connection could access the contest page.
The enhanced website allows customers to pay their bills online, update account information, check their energy consumption history, report a streetlight outage, calculate their monthly energy consumption, schedule a free home energy audit, check current job openings, or apply for a job.
Among the pages most visited during the contest: registration for online billing, information on KUA’s internet services, and current job openings. In fact, more than 2,000 employment applications were downloaded from the website during the 5-week contest.
KUA is Florida’s 6th largest community-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and Internet customers in three Central Florida counties. KUA celebrated its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
