KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 6, 2009 – Raising money to help families unable to pay their electric bills is as easy as pie — pumpkin pie, that is!
A total of $593 was raised Thursday evening at Taste of Osceola, an annual food-tasting event hosted by the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds were raised by Kissimmee Utility Authority employees who sold slices of pumpkin pie and by local restaurants BJ’s Brewhouse and Pazza Luna that contributed their event proceeds to the utility’s Good Neighbor Energy Fund. A dollar-for-dollar match by the utility increased the total contribution to $1,186.
KUA established its Good Neighbor Energy Fund in 1991 to provide assistance to customers who are experiencing temporary financial difficulties such as sudden illness, unexpected unemployment or a personal crisis. The fund is maintained through voluntary contributions from customers and employees of the utility. Last year, the fund raised more than $49,600.
To contribute to the Good Neighbor Energy Fund, personal checks can be written to “Good Neighbor Energy Fund” and mailed to: Kissimmee Utility Authority, P.O. Box 423219, Kissimmee, FL 34742-3219. Additional details about the fund can be found online at http://www.kua.com/Community/Programs/GoodNeighbor.aspx.
