Four Apply For Open KUA Board Seat

KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 29, 2:00 pm — Four residents of Kissimmee have submitted applications to serve on the Board of Directors of the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA). The deadline for completed applications was November 27. The individual selected will complete the term of Dr. George Gant, who resigned his seat on the Board after his recent election as mayor of Kissimmee.

The candidates:
Mary Carr, 1538 Amherst Lane, is owner and manager of Mar Cares, a credit counseling service in Kissimmee. Carr holds an AS degree in legal assisting from Valencia Community College and has been a Kissimmee resident for 11 years.

Charles Cornett, 811 Hastings Drive, is an engineer currently responsible for construction management of the Western Beltway project in central Florida. He holds a BS civil engineering degree from the University of Kentucky and is an 11-year resident of Kissimmee.

Bill Hart, 1008 Plantation Drive, is a survey manager for Berryman & Henigar, Inc. in Orlando. He holds a MA degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. Hart is a former Kissimmee City Commissioner and 24-year resident of Osceola county.

David McKim, 1742 Covey Court, is corporate controller at the Holiday Inn Main Gate East. He holds an MBA from Rollins College. McKim has lived in Kissimmee for 21 years and is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants.

The KUA Board will interview the candidates at a special meeting at 4:00 pm on Monday, December 4. The Board will then select one candidate whose name will go before the Kissimmee City Commission on December 12 for final confirmation. The candidate confirmed by the City Commission will be sworn in at the Board’s January meeting and finish out Gant’s term until it expires on September 30, 2001.

KUA is Florida‘s 7th largest municipally-owned utility serving 53,000 electric, water and Internet customers in five Central Florida counties. KUA will be celebrating its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
