KISSIMMEE, Fla., December 9, 2013 – Power plant operator/mechanic Jared Tillman has been named Kissimmee Utility Authority’s 2013 employee of the year.
Tillman was chosen from this year’s 12 employees of the month. With this honor comes a plaque, $200 cash, two days off with pay and a reserved parking space.
Tillman was recognized for his numerous contributions to the design and construction of Unit 4 at the utility’s Cane Island Power Park, which resulted in significant time and monetary savings for the utility. He was also credited with detecting a hydrogen fire in the Unit 3 vent line and mobilizing the necessary equipment to extinguish the fire. This quick action prevented damage to the $135.7 million generator.
A graduate of Osceola High School, Tillman began his career at the utility in 2006 as a part-time meter reader. He was promoted to operator/mechanic in 2007.
Founded in 1901, KUA (http://kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 64,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
