KISSIMMEE, Fla., October 3, 2013 – The Kissimmee Utility Authority has awarded a $136,000 contract to D. H. Griffin Wrecking Company, Inc. for site demolition associated with its new Roy E. Hansel Substation.

The contract is for site preparation work involving the removal of existing soil, crushed concrete and other debris and replacing it with clean, compacted backfill.

The $17.2 million substation, a Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) gas insulated design, will replace the utility’s existing Power Plant substation which was constructed in the 1970s. Unlike the open-air design of the current substation, much of the new substation and supporting equipment will be housed inside a building to minimize the visual impact.

The substation will serve downtown Kissimmee and its business district.

Founded in 1901, KUA (http://kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 64,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
