KISSIMMEE, Fla., October 12, 2015 – During its regular monthly meeting held Oct. 7, Kissimmee Utility Authority swore in its newest board member and held its annual election of officers.

Kathleen Thacker, a retired 30-year employee of Orange County Public Schools, took the oath of office to begin a new five-year term on the volunteer utility board. She joined the board in August 2010 to complete the unfinished term of Nancy Gemskie, who resigned to run for a seat on the Osceola County School Board. Thacker’s new term will expire on Sept. 30, 2020.

In the election of officers, Reginald Hardee was reelected chairman of the board. Hardee is technology director for Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise.

In addition, the board reelected:

Vice Chairman: Jeanne Van Meter
Secretary: Dr. George Gant
Assistant Secretary: Kathleen Thacker
Director: Ethel Urbina

The utility’s five-member board of directors sets policy direction for the utility. Specifically, the board approves annual budgets, sets rates and approves major purchases. The board also directs a general manager who is responsible for day-to-day operations of the utility.

Founded in 1901, KUA (http://kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 67,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
