KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 19, 11:00 am – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) has captured seven awards — the most awarded to any one company or organization in Central Florida — in the 2002 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
The Image Awards competition is conducted annually to recognize outstanding public relations programs and to encourage and promote the development of excellence in internal and external communications.
KUA was awarded a Grand Image Award, two Image Awards, three Awards of Distinction, and a Judges’ Award at the April 18 banquet held in downtown Orlando.
In the crisis communications category, KUA received an Image Award and a Judges’ Award for its customer response and recovery to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
In the internal communications category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its designation and construction of an electric substation and walkway in honor of utility employees.
In the special events category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its year-long Electric Centennial Celebration.
In the annual report category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its 2001 annual report and centennial history, titled “Generation for the Generations.”
In the poster/calendar category, KUA received the Grand Image Award for Best Printed Tool and an Image Award for its 2002 Calendar of Energy Conservation that features the artwork of 12 Osceola elementary students.
A Grand Image Award is the best in an overall division, Image Awards are the highest level of awards in each category, Awards of Distinction meet the judges’ standard of excellence, and Judges’ Awards recognize projects that receive maximum results using a minimum budget.
KUA has earned 122 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, events and publications since 1995. KUA is Florida’s 6th largest community-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and Internet customers in four Central Florida counties. KUA celebrated its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
