KUA Continues to Restore Power in Aftermath of Hurricane Jeanne

KISSIMMEE, Fla., September 27, 12:30 p.m. – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) crews continued work Monday to restore power to all customers affected by Hurricane Jeanne. At the peak of the storm at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, 34,000 customers – or 59 percent of the utility’s 58,000 customers – were without electricity. At 12:30 p.m. Monday, crews had restored service to 30,700 of the customers impacted by the storm.

The number of outages rose slightly on Monday morning as residents returning home from storm evacuations began to report their individual service outages to KUA. Customers who are still without power should call the utility’s 24-hour outage line at 407-933-7777.

About 3,300 customers, or six percent, remain without power Monday. Although isolated outages have been reported throughout Osceola County, the major areas without power include:

Campbell City
– Isolated outages

Kissimmee
– Lakeside Estates
– Michigan Avenue, Ocean Street
– Highland Avenue

Osceola County
– Pleasant Hill Lakes
– Hoagland Blvd., north of Pershing Avenue
– Old Vineland Road
– Neptune Road, King’s Highway

Buenaventura Lakes
– Isolated outages

KUA expects to have more than 97 percent of its customers restored by midnight Monday and the remainder by midnight on Tuesday. Rising flood waters throughout the region, however, are threatening electrical facilities in many locations and could result in loss of service.
