KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 14, 2008 – Approximately 1,800 customers of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) lost power for one hour on Friday afternoon following a construction accident in south Kissimmee. No injuries were reported.

At 3:12 p.m., a crew working at the Village Shops at Bellalago (under construction) dug up an underground power line, knocking out a 13,200-volt feeder line serving 1,835 customers. The shopping center is located just south of the gated entrance to the Bellalago subdivision.

The resulting outage affected customers in Bellalago and in the areas of Pleasant Hill Road, Hoagland Blvd., Ham Brown Road and a portion of Good Samaritan Village.

Repairs were made by KUA crews and power was restored to 516 customers at 3:47 p.m. The remaining 1,319 customers were restored at 4:13 p.m.

The construction crews were not affiliated with the utility.
