KISSIMMEE, Fla., February 3, 2010 – To help offset higher demand for payment assistance, the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) board of directors has approved a two-for-one match on all financial contributions made to its energy assistance fund until March 31.
The utility normally matches dollar-for-dollar all donations made to its Good Neighbor Energy Fund, a voluntary fund established in 1991 to provide assistance to residential customers who are experiencing temporary financial difficulties such as sudden illness, unexpected unemployment or a personal crisis. The utility, however, has seen a recent spike in requests for assistance, due to higher bills resulting from last month’s cold snap. Customer demand for electricity in January was 93 percent higher than December, according to utility data, making February bills higher than normal.
Last year, the fund raised nearly $39,000.
To contribute to the fund, checks can be written to “Good Neighbor Energy Fund” and mailed to: Kissimmee Utility Authority, P.O. Box 423219, Kissimmee, FL 34742-3219. Additional details about the fund can be found online at http://www.kua.com/Community/Programs/GoodNeighbor.aspx.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 62,000 customers in five Central Florida counties.
