KISSIMMEE, Fla., June 4, 4:30 pm – The Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) has received its downtown beautification award for the month of June 2001. The award recognizes the giant Centennial Mural that was recently completed at the Roy E. Hansel power plant in downtown Kissimmee.

Local artist Tom Copella spent nearly 6 months painting the 3,600-square foot mural on two sides of the plant. The mural features a turn-of-the-century scene of Kissimmee‘s lakefront. The completed artwork was unveiled and dedicated by KUA’s Board of Directors on May 19.

“We are very honored to receive this prestigious award,” said KUA President & General Manager Jim Welsh. “The Hansel Centennial Mural is our gift to downtown to mark our 100 years of service to the Kissimmee area.”

KUA is Florida‘s 7th largest municipally-owned utility serving 53,000 electric, water and Internet customers in four Central Florida counties. KUA celebrates its 100th year of serving the community on June 28.
