KISSIMMEE, Fla., June 1, 2015 – For the fourth consecutive year, Kissimmee Utility Authority has been recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold-level Fit-Friendly Company. The program recognizes companies that champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity in the workplace.

Fit-Friendly companies reach Gold-level status by offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, hosting regular employee health fairs and risk assessments and providing online health tracking tools.

Working in an office, almost eight hours are spent sitting at a desk. Research has found that prolonged sitting leads to several health problems and mental fatigue. Fit-Friendly companies provide resources to help break up the stagnant seated position and encourage physical activity which, in turn, increases productivity, reduces absenteeism, lowers turnover and reduces healthcare costs. These cost savings allow us to keep our operating costs low while maintaining competitive electric rates for our customers.

Founded in 1901, KUA (http://kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 67,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
