KUA Ushers in New Era of Communication with Enhanced Voicemail

KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 14, 5:00 pm – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) unveiled today a new, enhanced form of voicemail that allows users to retrieve their messages via phone, web or e-mail.

The service allows phone subscribers to receive voicemail in their email inbox and listen to the messages through their computer speakers or headphones. Subscribers can also forward the messages to others as email or even save them to their computer hard drive. In addition, voicemail alert notifications can be sent to mobile devices like cellular phones and personal pagers.

“We have sharpened our focus by providing increased communications functionality,” said Jef Gray, KUA’s vice president of information technology. “Enhanced voicemail is a great feature for those individuals who are away from their home telephone during the day and don’t want to miss an important call from a doctor’s office, child’s school or neighbor.”

Enhanced voicemail is available free of charge to subscribers of KUA’s America Plan®. A nominal fee is charged to those enrolled in one of the utility’s other phone rate plans.

KUA, in partnership with Sparks Communications of New Smyrna Beach, began offering affordable, flat rate calling plans to residential and small business customers in March. Residential calling plans range from $24.95 – $58.95 per month and include local and long distance calling as well as popular features like call waiting, call forwarding, call block and speed dialing.

In its first month of operation, 514 customers subscribed to the phone service.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
