KUA Warns Customers of Bill Payment Scam

KISSIMMEE, Fla., February 25, 2009 – Kissimmee Utility Authority is warning its customers to be aware of con artists posing as KUA employees to collect money for electric and water services.

Such scam artists have targeted several customers in Kissimmee in recent days, phoning or knocking on doors and asking for cash or checks to avoid service disconnection.

“KUA employees never collect money from customers at their homes or businesses,” said Susan Postans, KUA’s vice president of customer service. “If someone comes to your door claiming to be a KUA employee and asks for payment, call the police.”

All KUA employees carry photo identification badges, and are required to display their badge if asked. Customers are encouraged to ask for identification.
