Utility Annual Report, Calendar and Brochure Honored

KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 20, 2007 – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) received seven awards at the 2007 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.

The winners were announced Thursday evening at a ceremony held at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando.

The utility received one of the evening’s highest honors – a Grand Image Award – as well as four Image Awards and two Judges’ Awards. Only three Grand Image Awards are presented each year.

The Image Awards competition recognizes companies that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of public relations programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation.

An Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category. An Award of Distinction is presented to all entries that meet the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges. A Judges’ Award is presented to an outstanding entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.

Image Award winners in each division are automatically considered for the Grand Image Award, representing the finest examples of public relations programming in Central Florida.

In the annual report category, KUA received an Image Award for its 2006 annual report. The 26-page report, titled “What You Don’t See,” exposes the otherwise invisible aspects of electricity and the electricity business. The report sheds light on the efforts made on a daily basis by KUA to deliver services to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in Osceola County.

Printed copies of the report are available upon request from the utility’s corporate communications division by phoning 407-933-9838 or by email at pr@kua.com.

In the four-color brochure category, the utility received an Image Award and a Judges’ Award for its Cane Island Power Park brochure. Distributed during public tours of the power plant, the brochure includes operating statistics, a three-dimensional illustration of the complex and color photographs of the major components of the plant.

In the poster/calendar category, KUA received an Image Award and a Judges’ Award for its 2007 calendar of electrical safety. The full-color wall calendar features artwork from Osceola County students that reinforces key safety messages and warns of the danger of contact with electricity. Copies of the calendar — 12,000 in all — were provided free of charge to area teachers and students. The winning artwork is featured at http://www.kua.com/community/features/studentart07.

In the audio/visual tools category, the utility received an Image Award and a Grand Image Award for the online version of its 2006 annual report. The report opens with a 40-second photo montage followed by an interactive table of contents. The report is available online at http://www.kua.com/corporate/press/reports/index.aspx.

The winning entries will now advance to FPRA’s statewide level of competition, known as the Golden Image Awards.

KUA has earned 200 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, events and publications since 1995.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
