KISSIMMEE, Fla., February 2, 8:30 am – Customers of KUA.net, the Internet division of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA), are expected to establish an all-time record for Internet usage on February 14 as they join millions of other Americans who will flock to the World Wide Web on Valentine’s Day.

“The surge in e-commerce and the rising popularity of electronic greeting cards makes the Internet a convenient medium for expressing love and friendship,” said Chris Gent, KUA’s manager of communications. “The Internet has grown to the point where there are now more e-mail messages sent daily than cards and letters via traditional mail.”

According to recent online research, 80% of Internet users surveyed plan to send electronic greeting cards this Valentine’s Day. This number is up from 66 percent who sent electronic Valentine’s Day cards in 2000. Flowers, chocolate and fragrances are expected to top the list of those shopping online.

KUA.net will have its technical and customer service representatives available around the clock on Valentine’s Day to ensure the reliability of its Internet and e-mail infrastructure.

KUA is Florida‘s 7th largest municipally-owned utility serving 53,000 electric, water and internet customers in five Central Florida counties. KUA celebrates its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
