KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 10, 4:45 p.m. – At a meeting of the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) board of directors held Wednesday, the board interviewed two applicants and selected Bill Hart to serve a second five-year term on the utility’s governing board.

Hart is vice president of surveying and engineering firm Franklin Hart and Reid and a Kissimmee resident since 1975. He holds a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. Hart currently serves as secretary on the five-person utility board.

Hart’s name will go before the Kissimmee City Commission on May 30 for final confirmation. If confirmed, he will be sworn in at the board’s October meeting and serve until September 30, 2011.

The utility’s board of directors sets policy direction for the utility. Specifically, the board approves annual budgets, sets rates and approves major purchases. The board also directs a general manager who is responsible for day-to-day operations of the utility.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
