NAPLES — At their annual conference in Naples, members of the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) elected Brian Horton, President and General Manager, CEO of Kissimmee Utility Authority, as vice president of the organization’s board of directors.

“This past year has been more than challenging, but Florida’s public power communities pulled together like we always do to support one another and our customers as we all dealt with an unprecedented situation,” said Horton. “I am proud to be part of this association and look forward to serving Florida public power in this new capacity.”

Horton has been CEO of KUA since April 2019. He is a Certified Public Manager and holds both a Master of Public Administration degree and bachelor’s degree in electric engineering from Florida State University. Horton has 20 years of engineering, operations and regulatory experience within the electric utility industry. Prior to joining KUA in 2015, he was a member of the senior management team for the City of Tallahassee’s electric utility where he handled engineering and construction management of energy delivery facilities.

“We are so fortunate to have Brian and his fellow officers at the helm of this organization,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “Together they bring decades of industry experience, leadership and a true passion for public power that will help us realize our vision for providing our communities with the next generation of clean, affordable and reliable power.”

FMEA is the statewide trade association representing Florida’s public power utilities. The association actively represents and advocates for member cities’ interests on a wide variety of state and federal issues, provides education and training for members and serves as a clearinghouse for industry news and information.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 84,000 customers in Osceola County, Florida. For more information, visit www.kua.com.
