KISSIMMEE — The Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors on Wednesday approved a $309 million operating and capital budget for fiscal year 2023. The vote came after several Board discussions and a public hearing on the budget.
The approved budget is a 29.5 percent increase from the 2022 budget. The increase is related primarily to higher expenditures in fuel and purchased power. This also marks the utility’s 18th consecutive year without a base rate increase. The utility’s last base rate increase was in July 2005.
The budget authorizes 287 full-time equivalent positions – the same as the current budget – and reflects a four percent market level adjustment for employees.
Other highlights of the FY 2023 budget include:
- $174 million for fuel and purchased power
- $19 million for capital expenditures
- $31 million for transfers to the City of Kissimmee and Osceola County
- Total employee base of 287 with an associated payroll of $43 million
- Expected customer growth of 3.3 percent over FY22 budget
- Forecasted energy sales increase of 1.7 percent over FY22 budget
The new budget takes effect October 1, 2022.
