KISSIMMEE, Fla., June 11, 2008 – At Tuesday’s meeting of the Kissimmee City Commission, Dr. George Gant was confirmed by the commission to serve on the board of directors of Kissimmee Utility Authority. Gant will complete the unfinished term of former utility chairman William C. “Bill” Hart, who died suddenly on May 9.
Gant is the former mayor of Kissimmee and retired medical director of the Osceola County Health Department. He holds a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and is a 48-year resident of Kissimmee.
Gant will be sworn in at today’s board meeting.
The five-member board is made up of utility customers who reside both inside and outside Kissimmee city limits. The board sets policy direction, approves annual budgets, sets rates and approves major purchases. The board also directs a general manager who is responsible for day-to-day operations of the utility.
