KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 23, 2009 – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) today announced the winners of its 16th annual student calendar art contest.
Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote energy conservation.
This year, a total of 1,327 entries were received from 21 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private and charter schools. KUA also received entries from nearly three dozen homeschooled students.
A panel of judges met last week and selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA’s 2010 Calendar of Energy Conservation.
The winners are:
— City of Life Christian Academy – Athea Reyes, grade 5; Camille Soto, kindergarten
— Kissimmee Charter Academy – Victoria Quezada, grade 4
— Kissimmee Elementary School – Dawinmary Colon, grade 5; Mayra Rosado, grade 2; Nayeli Rosado, grade 1
— Pleasant Hill Elementary School – Britney Heimuli, grade 2; Emmanuel Umali, grade 2
— Trinity Lutheran School – Robert Brea, grade 3; Isabella Osorio, grade 5
— Homeschooled – EmmaKate Allen, grade 4; Dayna Beatty, grade 5
This year marks the second consecutive win for EmmaKate Allen and Victoria Quezada. In addition, Mayra and Nayeli Rosado are the first sisters to win in the same year since the inception of the calendar contest in 1995.
Each of the 12 winning students will receive a $100 cash prize. All students who submitted artwork will be honored with a letter of appreciation, a small prize, a copy of the full-color wall calendar and an opportunity to win annual passes to SeaWorld Orlando.
The calendars will be distributed free of charge, beginning in December.
