KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 12, 2014 – Kissimmee Utility Authority today announced the winners of its 21st annual student calendar art contest.
Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote electrical safety among students and their families.
This year, a total of 775 entries were received from 23 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private and charter schools.
A panel of judges met last week and selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA’s 2015 Calendar of Electrical Safety.
The winners are:
— Canoe Creek Charter Academy – Nicholas Thomas, grade 4
— City of Life Christian Academy – Isabella Ikram, grade 3; Veronica Melendez, grade 4
— Flora Ridge Elementary – Izabella Suarez, grade 4; Jaynise Arlene Santiago, grade 1
— Highlands Elementary – Samantha Pabon, grade 5
— Holy Redeemer Catholic School – Lean Hour Tan, grade 5 (grand prize winner); Felipe Abreu, grade 4
— New Beginnings Education Center – Aidan Cooper, grade 4
— St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School – Sarah Wolff, grade 4
— Thacker Avenue Elementary for International Studies – Samarah Sobredo, grade 3
— Ventura Elementary – Kevin Guerra, grade 5
The 12 winning students will have their artwork featured in the 2015 calendar and receive a $100 cash prize. The grand prize winner’s name and artwork will be featured on the calendar cover and affixed to a KUA bucket truck for one year.
The grand prize winner’s school, Holy Redeemer Catholic School, will receive $500 in art supplies, and Flora Ridge Elementary will receive $250 in art supplies for submitting the most total entries in the contest.
The calendars will be distributed free of charge, beginning in December.
