KISSIMMEE, Fla., November 13, 2012 – Kissimmee Utility Authority today announced the winners of its 19th annual student calendar art contest.
Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote electrical safety and help prevent electrical accidents.
This year, a total of 2,049 entries were received from 28 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private, charter and home schools.
A panel of judges met last week and selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA’s 2013 Calendar of Electrical Safety.
The winners are:
— Boggy Creek Elementary – Yasmine Salazar, grade 4
— City of Life Christian Academy – Jordan Green, grade 5; Elijah Kolenda, grade 2; Camryn Sanchez, grade 2
— Flora Ridge Elementary – Genesis Ardon, grade 3
— Freedomland Christian Academy – Omar E. Berrios, grade 5 (Grand Prize Winner)
— Harmony Community School – Melody Ferency, grade 3; Jacques Speyrer, grade 2
— Kissimmee Elementary – Andria Krause, grade 2; Amanda Tedrick, grade 4
— Lakeview Elementary – Michelle Rivera, grade 5
— Pleasant Hill Elementary – Jelena Randall, grade 4
The twelve winning students will have their artwork featured in the 2013 calendar and receive a $100 cash prize. The grand prize winner will have his name and artwork affixed to a KUA bucket truck for one year and be featured on the calendar’s cover.
The grand winner’s school, Freedomland Christian Academy, will receive $500 in art supplies, and Flora Ridge Elementary will receive $250 in art supplies for submitting the most total entries in the contest.
The calendars will be distributed free of charge, beginning in December.
