Kissimmee Utility Authority today announced the winners of its 22nd annual student calendar art contest.
Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote energy conservation among students and their families.
This year, a total of 1,844 entries were received from 23 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private and charter schools.
A panel of judges met last week and selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA’s 2016 Calendar of Energy Conservation.
The winners are:
— Bellalago Academy – Luis Arroyo, grade 5
— Central Avenue Elementary – Vallcenza Commisso, grade 5
— City of Life Christian Academy – Sylgelis Rosario, grade 2
— Deerwood Elementary – Sanai-Love F. Brandao, grade 5
— Mill Creek Elementary – Andrea Ramsunder, grade 5
— New Beginnings Education Center – Jonathan Singletary, grade 3
— Partin Settlement Elementary – Anissa Rose, grade 1
— Pleasant Hill Elementary – Maya Richardson, grade 5
— Renaissance Charter School at Poinciana – Amanda Sierra, grade 4
— St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic – Mary Clare Wolff, grade 3
— Sunrise Elementary – Elizabeth Davidoff, grade 4; Onixxjoe Barreto, grade 2 (grand prize winner)
The 12 winning students will have their artwork featured in the 2016 calendar and receive a $150 cash prize. The grand prize winner’s name and artwork will be featured on the calendar cover and affixed to one of KUA’s energy audit vehicles for one year.
The grand prize winner’s school, Sunrise Elementary, will receive $750 in art supplies, and Flora Ridge Elementary will receive $500 in art supplies for submitting the most total entries in the contest.
The calendars will be distributed free of charge, beginning in early January.
