KISSIMMEE, Fla., February 5, 2008 – Kissimmee Utility Authority raised more than $38,000 in 2007 for its Good Neighbor Energy Fund, which provides assistance to families who need help paying their power bills.
Overall donations to the fund in 2007 decreased by 17 percent compared to the previous year.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is maintained through voluntary contributions from customers and employees of KUA. In 2007, the utility and its customers raised $38,206, which included a $19,100 dollar-for-dollar match by the utility.
Since 1991, KUA and its customers have raised more than $500,000 and helped thousands of families in temporary financial need pay their electric bills. The utility works with the Osceola County Council on Aging to distribute 100 percent of the money donated to the fund.
