KISSIMMEE, Fla., September 10, 8:00 a.m. – The Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) today announced that Chris M. Gent, manager of corporate communications for Kissimmee Utility Authority, is the recipient of the chapter’s 2004 Bob Davis Award for outstanding contributions to the public relations profession.
The award is presented annually to an individual for his or her “behind the scenes” volunteer efforts that go largely unnoticed by chapter members and are not recognized by other awards programs.
The award is named in honor of Bob Davis, Ph.D., ABC, APR, CPRC, a professor at the University of Central Florida who has given tirelessly to FPRA and the profession for over two decades.
Gent has been a member of FPRA for 10 years. He has served on the association’s local board for eight years and served as Orlando chapter president in 2002-03. Gent currently serves on FPRA’s executive committee as the statewide vice president of public relations.
Gent is a Florida native and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Central Florida. He received Osceola County’s distinguished leader award in 2003, the UCF Alumni Association’s 2002 Community Service Award and the Orlando Business Journal’s “Up & Comers Award” in 2001.
The Florida Public Relations Association is Florida’s oldest and largest professional organization for public relations professionals, with nearly 1,300 members organized into 14 professional chapters and 10 student chapters statewide.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
