KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 20, 2015 – The American Public Power Association on Monday awarded its Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) platinum award to the Kissimmee Utility Authority for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
KUA was one of 191 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn the designation.
The RP3 award recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, training and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices, and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
Kenneth Stone, energy services and accounting manager at Braintree Electric Light Department of Braintree, Massachusetts, and executive committee member of APPA’s RP3 Review Panel, presented the award to KUA on May 18 during the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Sacramento, California.
“KUA is proud to be recognized among our peers as having one of the best operating records in the industry,” said Jim Welsh, KUA president and general manager. “This recognition underscores our continued commitment to safety and reliability for the people and businesses of Kissimmee.”
KUA has earned the RP3 designation continuously since 2007. The designation is active for three years, after which time a utility must reapply.
The American Public Power Association, based in the Washington, D.C., metro area, is the service organization for the nation’s more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities. Collectively, these utilities serve more than 48 million Americans.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 67,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
