KISSIMMEE, Fla., August 7, 11:40 am — Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) captured four awards in the Florida Public Relations Association’s 2002 Golden Image Awards competition, the most prestigious awards given in the public relations industry in Florida. KUA was awarded two Golden Image Awards, an Award of Distinction and a Judges’ Award.
The awards were presented August 6 during ceremonies at the Wyndham Palace Resort & Spa in Lake Buena Vista. The ceremony is held annually and honors the very best in strategic public relations planning and implementation.
The latest awards bring KUA’s awards total to 128 since 1995. KUA has earned these awards for public relations programs, events and publications at the state, national and international levels of competition.
In the CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its comprehensive response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, including the expansion of its customer payment policies to assist those impacted financially, the raising of more than $37,000 to assist customers unable to pay their utility bills because of unemployment, and the free distribution of 58,000 U.S. flags to local residents to encourage patriotism.
In the INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS category, a Judges’ Award was given to KUA for its development and construction of a brick walkway at the Employee Electric Substation. The walkway features individual bricks with the names and personal messages of KUA’s 289 employees.
In the ANNUAL REPORT category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its 2001 annual report/centennial history titled “Generation for the Generations.” The book features a financial summary of 2001 as well as a nine-chapter narrative on the utility’s 100 years of service to the community.
In the POSTER/CALENDAR category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its 2002 Calendar of Energy Conservation that featured the artwork of 12 Osceola County elementary students.
Golden Image Awards are the highest public relations awards given out in Florida. Awards of Distinction meet the judges’ standard ofb excellence. Judges’ Awards recognize projects that receive maximum results using a minimum budget.
