KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 17, 2007 – The American Public Power Association on Monday honored Kissimmee Utility Authority with its Reliable Public Power Provider™ (RP3) recognition for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
KUA was one of 48 utilities honored nationwide.
John Twitty, general manager of City Utilities of Springfield, Mo., and chairman of the APPA board of directors, presented the award to KUA on Monday at the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Atlanta, Ga.
The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, training and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices, and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
“KUA is proud to be recognized among our peers as having one of the best operating records in the industry,” said Jim Welsh, KUA president and general manager. “This recognition underscores our continued commitment to deliver affordable, safe and reliable energy services to the people and businesses of Kissimmee.”
KUA had a near perfect service reliability rating of 99.987 percent in 2006.
