KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 26, 2013 – The American Public Power Association on Monday awarded its Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) platinum award to the Kissimmee Utility Authority for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.
KUA was one of 90 utilities honored nationwide.
The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, training and system improvement. Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices, and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
Brent McKinney, manager, electric transmission and distribution at City Utilities of Springfield, Mo., and chair of APPA’s RP3 Review Panel, presented the designees on March 25 during the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference held in Kissimmee.
“KUA is proud to be recognized among our peers as having one of the best operating records in the industry,” said Jim Welsh, KUA president and general manager. “This recognition underscores our continued commitment to deliver safe and reliable services to the people and businesses of Kissimmee.”
KUA previously earned the RP3 designation in 2011, 2009 and 2007. The designation is active for two years, after which time a utility must reapply.
