KISSIMMEE, Fla., July 11, 4:00 p.m. – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) was honored Monday with two awards of excellence in APEX 2005, the seventeenth annual international awards program recognizing excellence in printed and online publications.
KUA received a Grand Award – one of only 100 given out worldwide – for its new residential energy guide, “The Case of the Rising Electric Bills.” Modeled after a detective’s notebook, the 28-page guide offers easy, low-cost or no-cost steps to lower a monthly electric bill.
KUA received an award of excellence for its 2004 annual report. The 48-page report, titled “Beyond Measure,” featured a financial summary of 2004 as well as a behind-the-scenes narrative on the 2004 hurricane season and how the utility and its employees survived and thrived during the most devastating seven weeks in its history.
Winners were chosen from nearly 5,000 entries received from government, private corporations and nonprofit organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Other notable winners included Bank of America, NASA, Nextel Communications, Publix Super Markets and U.S. Postal Service.
APEX Awards – headquartered in Springfield, Va. – are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall excellence in communication.
KUA has earned 169 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, special events, community relations and publications since 1995.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
