KISSIMMEE, Fla., August 13, 3:30 pm – KUA.net, the Internet subsidiary of Kissimmee Utility Authority, inked a deal today with American Cablevision Services, Inc. to provide high-speed internet services to Solivita, one of Florida’s fastest-growing retirement communities.
KUA.net will use a wireless and cable-based infrastructure to bring high-speed connectivity to the 3,300-acre development located in northeast Polk County. Solivita is owned by Avatar Holdings, Inc. and is part of the overall Poinciana community that is comprised of some 47,000 acres that straddle the Osceola-Polk county line.
“Traditional internet access solutions work well in major cities where technical resources and high-speed bandwidth facilities are readily available,” said Chris Gent, KUA’s manager of corporate communications. “However, just beyond Central Florida’s major communications corridors, many communities struggle for access to the information highway. We’re working to change that.”
The internet service will be delivered to residents via the infrastructure of American Cablevision Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Avatar. KUA.net will provide a full-time, on-site technician to provide assistance to Solivita residents, and a free resident assistance line will be established for any questions or problems that arise with the internet access. In addition, free internet training classes for residents will be conducted at Solivita’s business center on an ongoing basis.
“As a full-service community, we recognize that convenient internet access is a ‘must-have’ for our residents,” said Dennis Getman, president of American Cablevision Services, Inc. “With this technology, KUA.net has made it possible to offer cost-effective and high quality broadband services to our residents.”
“We expect a great deal of mutual value from the partnership, and are very excited about this opportunity,” said Jef Gray, KUA’s vice president of information technology. “Our collaboration enhances the value of the Solivita experience.”
Avatar Holdings Inc. is engaged in diversified real estate operations. Based in Coral Gables, Florida, its primary activities include the development of active adult communities in Florida and residential communities in Florida and Arizona.
KUA is Florida’s 6th largest community-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and internet customers in four Central Florida counties.
