KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 16, 9:00 am — To mark the 100th anniversary of electric service in Kissimmee, the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) is hosting an Electric Centennial Celebration from 3:00 – 10:00 pm on Saturday, May 19, in Kissimmee’s Lakefront Park.

The event will feature bucket truck rides, conservation and safety demonstrations, power plant tours, utility vehicle display, children’s activities, live performances by the Osceola Center for the Arts Jazz Band and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra… capped off with a spectacular laser light show. Parking and admission for the event are free.

At 5:30 pm, KUA’s Board of Directors will unveil and dedicate a new painted mural at its Roy E. Hansel power plant. Local artist Tom Copella has spent the past 6 months painting a 3,600-square foot mural on two sides of the plant. The mural features a turn-of-the-century scene of Kissimmee‘s lakefront.

[NOTE: June 28, 2001 is the actual 100th anniversary date, but because of its close proximity to planned Fourth of July activities, the public celebration was moved ahead to May to avoid a conflict.]
