KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 15, 2015 – Kissimmee Utility Authority won five awards Wednesday evening at the 2015 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. The winners were announced at a ceremony held at the UCF Bright House Networks Stadium.

The Image Awards competition recognizes companies and organizations that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of PR programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation.

KUA won one Image Award, three Awards of Distinction and one Judges’ Award.

An Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category. An Award of Distinction is presented to an entry that meets the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges. A Judges’ Award is presented to an entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.

In the public service category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its 2014 Osceola Hurricane Handbook. The 40-page guide included information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a tropical cyclone tracking chart.

In the special events category, the utility received an Award of Distinction for its Hansel Electric
Substation groundbreaking. Scheduled to be operational in fall 2015, the $17.2 million electric substation will enhance reliability, increase safety and improve overall aesthetics.

In the poster and calendar category, the utility received an Image Award for its 2014 calendar of energy conservation. The annual calendar project is designed to promote good energy conservation practices for children and adults.

In the news release category, KUA received an Award of Distinction and a Judges’ Award for its metallic balloon safety news release. Following a major power outage in January caused by the release of a metallic balloon, the utility developed a news release offering balloon safety tips to help increase community awareness.

KUA has earned 279 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, special events, community relations and publications since 1995.

Founded in 1901, KUA (https://kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 67,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
