KISSIMMEE, Fla., December 3, 2009 – Field service specialist Sean Janson has been named Kissimmee Utility Authority’s 2009 employee of the year. The selection was announced at a company-wide employee meeting held Wednesday at the utility.
Janson was chosen from this year’s 12 employees of the month. With this honor comes a plaque, $200 cash, two days off with pay and a reserved parking space.
On Feb. 4, Janson was repairing a meter at the Polo Run Apartments on Central Avenue in Kissimmee when he heard a female resident of the complex screaming that her baby was dying. The boy was lifeless and his skin complexion and lips had already turned blue from lack of oxygen in the blood. Janson ran to assist, cleared the boy’s air passage and began chest massages that successfully restarted the boy’s heart. The boy was taken to Florida Hospital Kissimmee for treatment.
“Sean is a true life-changer,” said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. “He demonstrated a calm under pressure that resulted in a child’s life being saved. We are honored to work side by side with him.”
Janson began his career at KUA on December 1, 2003. He is responsible for the activation and deactivation of electric and water service for utility customers.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 62,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
