Lightning, Thunderstorms Knock Out Power to 1,200 in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla., July 15, 2009 – Severe thunderstorms and lightning on Wednesday evening left nearly 1,200 Kissimmee residents without electric service.

At the peak of the storm at approximately 7:47 p.m., lightning struck a distribution feeder in downtown Kissimmee knocking out power to 1,119 customers. Other scattered outages were also reported.

By 8:20 p.m., power had been restored to all utility customers.

Customers who experience a power outage are asked to call the utility’s 24-hour outage line at 407-933-9898.

Founded in 1901, KUA ( is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 62,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
