Rummaging Raccoon Causes Kissimmee Power Outage

KISSIMMEE, Fla., July 24, 9:15 a.m. – A curious raccoon scampered into a Kissimmee Utility Authority substation early Monday morning, causing a power outage that affected 2,858 customers — including traffic signals along a section of U.S. 192.

Electric service was interrupted at 4:53 a.m., and power was restored 31 minutes later at 5:24 a.m.

Those areas affected by the outage included Orange Gardens as well as customers along West Vine Street, from Thacker Ave. west to Hoagland Blvd.

The raccoon did not survive.
