KISSIMMEE, Fla., October 26, 2007 – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) today announced the winners of its 14th annual calendar art contest.
Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through sixth grade, the contest is designed to encourage the conservation of electricity at home and in the workplace.
A total of 1,147 entries were received from 36 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private and charter schools. KUA also received entries from a dozen homeschooled students.
A panel of judges selected twelve entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA’s 2008 Calendar of Energy Conservation. The printed calendars will be distributed free of charge in late December.
The winners are:
— Cypress Elementary – Kelly Blake, grade 4; Nathanael Hernandez, grade 4
— Heartland Christian Academy – Erica Christensen, grade 3; Emily Giovannini, grade 1
— Kissimmee Elementary – Brian Ferrer, grade 5; Daneishalys Santiago, grade 3; John Zambrana, grade 5
— Michigan Avenue Elementary – Jaimie Hauser, grade 2
— Narcoossee Community – Ethan Missigman, grade 3
— Partin Settlement Elementary – Kenneth Rom, grade 2
— P.M. Wells Charter Academy – Kiara Martinez, grade 4
— Homeschooled – Emily Skinner, grade 3
This year marks the second consecutive win for Kiara Martinez. In addition, Emily Skinner is the first homeschooled student to be featured in the calendar.
Each student who submitted artwork will be honored with a letter of appreciation and an opportunity to win four 2-day/2-park tickets to Universal Studios Florida. The twelve winners will receive $100 cash.
