KISSIMMEE, Fla., Sept. 22, 10:30 a.m. – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) is now accepting artwork entries for its 2007 Calendar of Electrical Safety. The contest, the 13th in the annual series, is open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through sixth grade (including home-schooled children).
The contest is designed to educate students and teachers about the dangers of electricity and to help prevent accidental injuries or deaths. Students are asked to use crayons, markers, paints or computer-generated graphics to depict electrical safety messages.
A panel of “celebrity” judges will select 12 entries – one for each calendar month – from the artwork submitted. The winning artwork will be featured in a full-color calendar produced by KUA for 2007.
Each student who submits artwork will be honored with a letter of appreciation and an opportunity to win four 2-day/2-park tickets to Universal Studios Florida. The twelve winners will receive $100 cash.
Deadline for entries is 5:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006.

In fact, one person is electrocuted in the home every 25 hours, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. These types of accidents are also the leading cause of death for children younger than 5, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
