Surge Protection

KUA | Surge Protection

Although most people associate a power surge event with lightning strikes, a lightning strike is the least common cause of power surges. Other external factors include animal interference and weather-related events. Internally (inside the home) generated surges can be caused by the cycling on and off of large appliances such as a refrigerator or clothes dryer. Surges can enter your home through low voltage lines such as Telephone, Cable TV, Antenna or any metallic path.

Items you may want to protect:
· Washers
· Dryers
· Dishwashers
· Refrigerators
· Electric Ranges
· Air Conditioning Equipment

How to protect against power surges:

Surge Suppression Devices (SPDs) are made to protect your electronic equipment by diverting surges away from sensitive electric circuits. A meter-based surge protector diverts high energy surges that enter through the electric lines. Even the most powerful surges and spikes, when passing through the meter-based surge protector, are reduced to levels that a plug-in surge strip can easily handle.

How is the device installed?

The surge protection device is installed right at the meter on the outside of your home to help stop surges before they can get inside. If you can’t be home for the installation, no problem! Your device can be installed quickly and easily right at your meter, whether you are home or away.

Who is eligible for surge protection?

KUA customers who own their homes. Tenants are not eligible for the KUA Surge Protection Program.

What the surge protection device cannot do:

No Surge Protection device can protect your home or the contents of your home from a direct lightning strike or sustained over voltages such as a loss of neutral or extended high voltage line contacts.

  • Cannot protect your home from a ‘brownout” or a lower-than-normal level of current (sag).
  • Cannot protect equipment from power surges introduced through the telephone, cable lines, metallic paths (water pipes), or surges that are internally generated.
  • Cannot protect equipment fed from a power source other than the power line which feeds your home through the meter.

Power surges have the potential to damage large and small appliances and devices throughout your home, costing you thousands of dollars.

With our NEW affordable and effective program, we can help protect you and your home.

Only $9.95 a month and a one-time installation fee of $50!
