Tomorrow is National Garage Sale Day and a good reminder that it may be time to replace your home appliances to improve the overall efficiency of your home. While an appliance may not be running at maximum efficiency, selling it in a garage sale is an option for extra cash toward an upgrade. So, let’s look at specific appliances and the signs and symptoms you should look out for:
Water Heaters – Leaks, noises or not enough hot water could all be signs to replace your water heater. To increase efficiency, consider switching to a newer model to avoid bill increases.
Refrigerators – If your motor is constantly running or there seems to be more condensation than usual, it may be time to upgrade your refrigerator. If your fridge is over 10 years old and in need of constant repairs, it’s not a bad idea for you to start saving up and shopping around for a new one.
Dishwasher – Expect to replace your dishwasher every 8 to 10 years to avoid encountering problems in mid-cycle.
Washer and Dryer – Washers and Dryers can be replaced every eight to 12 years. If you begin to see signs of leaks or excessive noise, it’s time to shop for options.
Stove/Oven – On average, you can get between 10 and 15 years out of a stove and oven. If your appliances are reaching this time frame, consider selling it to purchase a new one.
