Anyone who’s experienced a power surge knows the potential impact that it can have on expensive appliances like refrigerators or dishwashers.

You can protect your appliances and get added peace of mind with KUA’s Surge Protection Program. The surge protection device is installed directly on your meter and diverts high-energy surges that can enter through electric power lines from coming into your home.

Homeowners insurance or renter’s insurance typically doesn’t cover appliance damage caused by electric surges. In some cases, the appliance may have to undergo an expensive repair or be replaced altogether. Items covered under the program include appliances such as air conditioning equipment, refrigerators, washers and dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, and electric ranges.

Electric surges can be triggered for various reasons, such as extreme weather, animals coming into contact with electrical equipment, or vehicles running into electric lines or substations.
The surge protection program does not cover damage to televisions, central air conditioners, or direct lightning strikes on a home.

Starting the service requires a one-time activation fee of $50.00, plus a monthly service charge of $9.95 which is added to the electric bill.

You don’t have to be home for the surge protection device to be installed. A KUA meter technician can install the device on your meter whether you’re home or away. KUA customers who own their homes are eligible for the surge protection program; tenants are not eligible for the program.
