KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 13, 2018 – The Florida Municipal Electric Association on Saturday presented its annual safety award to Kissimmee Utility Authority for the utility’s continued commitment to safe work practices during the past year.
KUA earned the state’s third best safety record for electric utilities with 400,000 to 949,999 worker-hours of exposure.
Entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker hours and judged for the most incident-free records during 2017. The incidence rate, used to rank the utilities, is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker-hours during 2017, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
“In an industry where serious injuries and fatalities are inherent, safety training is the best line of defense in preventing accidents and saving lives,” said utility president and general manager Jim Welsh. “We are all very proud of this accomplishment and look forward to continuing a positive safety trend in the years ahead.”
