KISSIMMEE — Kissimmee Utility Authority received an American Public Power Association E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award during the American Public Power Association’s National Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The award honors APPA member utilities that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service.

“We are truly honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award,” said KUA President & General Manager Brian Horton. “This achievement is a reflection of our team’s unwavering commitment to excellence and our customers’ confidence in our service and reliability.”

KUA’s collective accomplishments, both recent and over time, have earned the utility this national recognition. The utility’s longstanding Good Neighbor Fund Program has now surpassed 8,000 customers, who are rounding up their bills to help fellow KUA customers experiencing financial difficulty with paying their utility bills. This past year, KUA took significant steps to meet the evolving energy needs of its growing community by rolling out a Surge Protection Program and a Home EV Charger Program, which continues to drive KUA’s sustainability efforts forward.

The award also recognized KUA for its extremely low SAIDI, which measures average outage time, its aging underground cable replacement program, its infrastructure investment, and its community events, among other accomplishments. In 2024, KUA earned an APPA Excellence in Reliability recognition, RP3 Diamond designation, a Safety Award of Excellence, a Mutual Aid Commendation, a Customer Satisfaction Award, and an Excellence in Public Power Communications Award.

This is the second time KUA has received the E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award; the first time was in 2016.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida’s sixth largest community-owned utility powering 97,000 customers in Osceola County, Florida. For more information, visit www.kua.com.
