KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 7, 11:00 am – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) is seeking individuals interested in appointment to the utility’s board of directors. The deadline for completed applications is 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2002.
Applicants must be current residents of the City of Kissimmee and demonstrate a successful business or professional management career.
The utility’s board of directors sets policy direction for the utility. Specifically, the board approves annual budgets, sets rates and approves major purchases. The board also selects a general manager who is responsible for day-to-day operations of the utility.
The board holds regular business meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm. Workshop meetings, generally devoted to a single subject, are held on an as-needed basis. In addition, board members represent the utility in various local, regional and national organizations.
The term of a director is 5 years, although a director can serve two consecutive terms. The positions are non-paid. The open seat is currently filled by Domingo Toro whose term expires on September 30, 2002. Toro is eligible for reappointment.
The KUA Board will interview applicants at a special meeting at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5. The Board will then select one applicant whose name will go before the Kissimmee City Commission for final confirmation on June 18. The candidate confirmed by the City Commission will be sworn in at the Board’s October meeting.
KUA is Florida’s 6th largest municipally-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and Internet customers in three Central Florida counties. KUA celebrated its 100th year of serving the community in 2001.
