KISSIMMEE, Fla., Nov. 8, 2018 – Kissimmee Utility Authority won two awards in the Excellence in Public Power Communications Awards, a national competition sponsored annually by the American Public Power Association. The winners were announced at the association’s 52nd annual Customer Connections Conference held this week in Orlando, Florida.
The awards honored electric utilities in three categories: print/digital, video and web/social media.
In the print/digital category, KUA received the award of excellence for its 2018 Osceola Hurricane Handbook. The free 40-page handbook includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a tropical cyclone tracking chart.
The utility’s coverage of its lineworker mutual aid mission to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria was recognized with the award of excellence in the social media/web category. The 119 total social media posts collectively garnered 282,820 views, 34,822 likes, 9,849 shares, and 3,222 comments during the 36-day mission.
