KISSIMMEE, Fla., December 30, 2018 – A foraging raccoon triggered a widespread power outage in Kissimmee this afternoon, leaving 3,218 customers of Kissimmee Utility Authority without electricity for a half hour.
The raccoon climbed onto a 13,200-volt piece of electrical equipment inside the utility’s Airport Substation at 1:38 p.m. Sunday, causing three primary feeder lines to fail. The substation, one of 10 serving the Kissimmee area, is located off Hoagland Blvd., just south of the Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.
All power was restored by 2:08 p.m.
The raccoon did not survive.
